At first you have to understand that there can not be a single field where a mechanical engineer can’t be used or utilised. But here we will only discuss about the core sector where a mechanical engineer can work with full efficiency and working field is fully dedicated to mechanical engineers. So the list starts now.

1. ISRO ( INDIAN SPACE RESEARCH ORGANISATION )

I am really sure that after reading the name ISRO, your chest would fill with pride. It is because ISRO is not only the pride our India but now it is globally well recognised to everyone. It is always dream for every single engineer to work in such kind of organisation and to serve our country is the silver on the spoon.
ISRO involves the organisations like Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre ( VSSC ) and Satish Dhawan research centre.
In ISRO there are vacancies like Technician, Technical assistant, scientist, scientific assistant and many more where a diploma and degree holder in mechanical engineering can work and fulfill his/her dreams.

2. DRDO ( DEFENCE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ORGANISATION )

It is also one of the most popular and prideful sector of India. Here in DRDO different equipments and instruments used for Indian security and services are made. A diploma and degree holder in mechanical engineering can work here as a technician, technical assistant, scientist, engineer etc.

3. HAL (HINDUSTAN AERONAUTICS LIMITED)

This is also one of the security purpose and serving agent organisation for the country. Here in HAL many war aeroplanes, helicopters or fighter planes are designed and manufactured. There are vacancies of diploma trainee or graduate trainee, technician trainee, technician for a diploma and degree holder in mechanical engineering students in HAL.

4. BARC ( BHABHA ATOMIC RESEARCH CENTER )

This organisation is well named after the pride of our country and one of the most popular scientist and nuclear physicist named Homi Jehangir Bhabha. BARC is the atomic energy department of Indian government which is a multi-disciplinary research centre with extensive infrastructure for advanced research and development covering the entire spectrum of nuclear science, chemical engineering, material sciences and mechanical engineering.
BARC is the mother of every research and development institutes such as Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited ( NPCIL ), National Fuel Complex ( NFC ), Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research ( IGCAR ), Raja Ramanna Centre For Advanced Technology ( RRCAT ), Variable Energy Cyclotron Centre ( VECC ) and many others.
A diploma and degree mechanical engineer can work as a stipendiary trainee, technician, technical assistant, scientific assistant etc. in any department of BARC.

5. SSC JUNIOR ENGINEER ( SSC JE )

Staff selection commission of India yearly recruit junior engineers. It is also one of the most high profile and highest paid job for a diploma holder in mechanical engineering. This could be on the list of first and second due to its high profile job and highly competitive exam. But for a mechanical engineer point of view, it is quite difficult to crack it because of the lack of seats in vacancy table every year. There are not more than 30 to 40 seats for a mechanical engineer every year as compare to other branch like civil engineering where the numbers are more than 1000. Apart from that it is also a different challenge for a diploma holder to compete with degree holder for the same seat.
SSC employed mechanical engineers for the post of junior engineer in different projects and tenders like bridge, highways, canals etc.

6. RAILWAY JUNIOR ENGINEER ( RRB JE )

Indian Railways which is one the biggest government sector of India hires mechanical engineering students for the post of junior engineer ( previously recruit as senior section engineer ). This could also be one toper on this list but due lack of opportunities and gap in time of vacancies it is in 6th. Railway generally recruit junior engineer in the gap of 4 or 5 years. By the result of which students don’t really think about this or literally care about the RRB JE job.

7. INDIAN OIL CORPORATION LIMITED (IOCL)

IOCL is one of the most important and profitable public sector maharatna company of India. IOCl have three main core branches of working such as Refinery division, Pipeline division and Marketing division. It is one of the major oil business company of India.
In IOCL, a mechanical engineer can be employed as a technical assistant, technician, engineering assistant, executive, engineer, management trainee etc. There is a great atmosphere and working experience a mechanical engineer can gain after in this reputed department.

8. NATIONAL THERMAL POWER CORPORATION ( NTPC )

NTPC is also one of the major public sector in the field of power generation and distribution in India. NTPC is a thermal power plant company which generates electricity mainly by means of coal and and work as a distributer of electricity.
NTPC employed a mechanical engineer as a diploma or graduate trainee, executive, engineer, maintenance incharge etc.

9. METRO RAIL CORPORATION OF INDIA (DMRC, LMRC, KMRC, BMRC etc.)

Metro Rail Corporation of India is one the graet and finest working field of India. It recruits mechanical engineering students as the designation of junior engineer, executive, assistant manager, customer relations assistant etc. As a mechanical engineering student this sector is one of the most learning platform and one need great gratitude and dedication here to to job.

10. OTHERS

There are also many more government sector where a mechanical engineer can get a respectable salary and work profile with all due respect and friendly atmosphere. Some of them are STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA LIMITED (SAIL), BHARAT HEAVY ELECTRONIC LIMITED (BHEL), GAIL, CIL etc.

• PRIVATE SECTOR COMPANIES

Since there is a kind of misconception in our mind that the government is best for a student in each and every criteria. But the reality is something different. Yes it is obvious that there is a assurity of job in government sector but some of the private sectors which are well known for their popularity and marketing are not far behind from any government sector in any terms and parameters.
For example TATA STEEL, Mahindra and Mahindra limited, Tata motors, Jindal steel etc. are the major private sectors that keep their priorities first and are beneficial for employees. Their facilities, services, atmosphere, work environment, order of work and the entire scenario are really different from others. That’s why a mechanical engineer can easily choose to work in any of the above private sector company. After working in these particular companies a student can enhance his or her skill at the best level and prepare themselves for the any upcoming challenges or projects in the life.
